I am an Australian artist, living on the far south coast of NSW. I work in digital and alternative photo media, making digital collage and cyanotype prints. I also make video and projection works that are non-narrative, immersive experiences, generating contemplative spaces.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Dramatic Art - Directing from the Victorian College of the Arts and worked as a freelance director and dramaturg for over 10 years before moving into video and photo media.
I am interested in how our relationship with the natural world shapes our search for meaning through science, religion, and the spiritual. I connect with these ideas by engaging with the local and particular. All my work is created with imagery captured close to where I live and work.
A fascination with repetition is also central to my work, a theme that has roots in the repetitive nature of the theatre rehearsal process and further developed through my training in Islamic geometric design in Morocco from 2014 to 2017. My time in Morocco developed an appreciation for the classical and spiritual underpinnings of this tradition and inspired explorations into distorting visuals through mirroring techniques. By fragmenting images and creating patterns, my work explores the line between figurative and abstract representations.
Ultimately, my artistic practice is driven by curiosity about the human experience and our relationship with the world around us. Through the synthesis of local observations and universal themes, I aim to create works that captivate the senses and create space for contemplation.
I am part of an Artist Collective MAP (More Art Please) a small collective of ambitious thinkers who explore the possibilities of art outside of traditional spaces, taking events out into the community: to pubs, shop-fronts and open spaces.
